Today I have a tale to tell – a tale about a little girl’s dream.
Once upon a time a little girl who lived in a country far from the rest of the world, had a dream that she could write a book. It was a silly dream really because no-one she knew had ever written a book, just as no-one from her country had ever been an astronaut. She may as well have dreamt she could fly to the moon.
So she discarded her dream in the same way she discarded the clothes outgrew.
When she became an adult, she lived for a time in a foreign country. Two of her children were born there and during that time, the dream to write a book re-surfaced. She started to write a story about a young woman who living a life that didn’t fit, but through her life experiences, she found a place where she belonged.
The young woman grew older and continued to work on this novel but she couldn’t make it past a few chapters. She attended courses, she read books and she wrote, but no matter how much effort she put into it, the story refused to come to life. So she put it aside and told herself sternly to stop wasting time dreaming.
But she couldn’t stop writing, so she started a small blog instead. She loved it. One day she came across a website that promised if you followed the process they laid out, you’d be able to write a book. She knew if she didn’t try, she’d always wonder ‘what if?’. This time, instead of trying to hide behind fiction, she decided to write the story as non-fiction – the lessons she’d learned over a lifetime. This time the words flew across the page and as she wrote, she understood for the first time that the woman in her earlier stories was now living a life that fitted her well.
Today is launch day for that book and the little girl, who is hiding behind the skirts of the older woman she has become, feels as if she’s landed on the moon.
If you want to read her story, it is free on Amazon for the next 48 hours only – Sunday and Monday (US time).
Dreams can come true even if you keep hold of them. Sometimes it takes a lifetime.
Maybe you have dreams you’ve discarded. Uncover them again, dust them off and start working to achieve them.
I’d love to hear from you about your dreams and about the ones that have come true. Please leave a comment below.
